Script Analysis: An Actor's Toolkit

Fundamentals of Aural Skills

Tuition: $195Give your child a head start on their journey to becoming a strong and confident musician with our Fundamentals of Aural Skills Class. Seen as the natural next step from our Foundations of Music Theory Class, this class is designed for the true beginner.
Through separating and simplifying the different aspects of music, rhythm, pitch, pulse, and more, we will learn how the study of Aural Skills can greatly enhance our success performing on stage!
Together we will master basic rhythms in multiple meters, learn solfège, decode/play the piano, and learn how to sing both solos and ensembles with more confidence. A shift from our fall Music Theory classes, the Aural Skills classes take the pressure off of homework and tests and put the emphasis on actual singing, clapping, and movement.

Intermediate Aural Skills for Singers
Grades: 8-12

Tuition: $250Complementing your exploration of Intermediate Music Theory, Intermediate Aural Skills takes practical musicianship skills to the next level. This course builds on the fundamental skills you've developed in Aural Skills Foundations. Experience a comprehensive exploration of intervals, refining your ability to recognize and reproduce them.
Take your sight-reading to new heights as we introduce all three types of solfège—fixed do, moveable do, and numbers—on more complicated exercises. Progress further in rhythmic understanding by incorporating dots, ties, and additional rhythmic values into your skill set. Transform the basic piano skills you learned in the previous course into the ability to play the piano and sing simultaneously.
We will also learn simple melodic and rhythmic dictations, marking your first steps into the world of transcription and musical analysis. Intermediate Aural Skills is ideal for those seeking to refine sight-reading, piano skills, and overall musicianship, creating a harmonious blend with the advanced theoretical knowledge gained in Intermediate Music Theory for Singers.
Prerequisite: Must have successfully completed Fundamentals or Beginner Aural Skills for Singers

Beginner Voice, Speech & Lyrical Diction
Grades: 8-12
Classes: Sundays 7:30pm-9:30pm (via Zoom)
First Class: 2/2
Tuition: $200In this virtual class, students will focus on the exploration and awareness on their individual speech and personal "accents" as they play with sounds as the building blocks of language.
Explore vowels and consonants through an active physical engagement of the International Phonetic Alphabet - (IPA) from both the classical singers' perspective and the actor. Students will work on weekly dictation exercises and learn new tools to further communicate with direct application to songs and/or monologues.
In this introductory course, we will focus on learning and utilizing IPA while focusing on Italian diction, English, and British received. Students will leave with a new understanding of the body as we explore different ways to incorporate speech and vocal production onstage and off.

Advanced Voice, Speech & Lyrical Diction

Classes: Sundays 7:30pm-9:30pm (via Zoom)
First Class: 4/6
Tuition: $200In this virtual class, students will focus on the exploration and awareness on their individual speech and personal "accents" as they play with sounds as the building blocks of language. Explore vowels and consonants through an active physical engagement of the International Phonetic Alphabet - (IPA) from both the classical singers perspective and the actor. Students will work on weekly dictation exercises and learn new tools to further communicate with direct application to songs and/or monologues.
In this continuation of our beginning class, students will strengthen their understanding of using IPA by learning new symbols in both German and French diction. In addition, students will work on dialects in the English language that one would most likely run into in an audition - i.e. British, Irish, Scottish, Australian and various American dialects.
Whether speaking English with a general American accent, with regionalisms shaped nearby or in a distant country, students work to attain the tools to create the possibility of communicating honestly and fully in any accent!
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Beginner Voice, Speech and Lyrical Diction.
